AROUND THE KRONE

OBERSTDORF

In the morning, we recommend a visit to the Breitachklamm gorge, an impressive rocky gorge in the Allgäu Alps. If you are already in Oberstdorf, you should also plan a detour to the Heini-Klopfer ski jump in Stillachtal. The ski jump in the Allgäu Arena in the village is also worth a flying visit, which you can then perfectly combine with a shopping spree in Oberstdorf!

KEMPTEN

Kempten is often referred to as the "Allgäu metropolis". A variety of interesting shopping destinations and the Forum Allgäu are well worth a visit in the city centre. The economic and cultural heart of the region beats in the city centre. The settlement "Cambodunum" was founded by the Romans as early as the time of Christ. Kempten experienced eventful years as a princely abbey and imperial city. Incidentally, the last witch trial on German soil took place in Kempten in 1775!

FÜSSEN

Who doesn't know it: Bavaria's most famous sight? The world-famous Neuschwanstein Castle attracts 1.3 million visitors to the Ostallgäu every year. King Ludwig II of Bavaria, the fairytale king, also known as "the Kini", had the castle built according to his ideas between 1869 and 1886. The old town centre of Füssen is also worth a visit. And very close by: the world-famous Wieskirche church not far from Steingaden .

BODENSEE

You can reach the "Bavarian Sea" after just under an hour's drive on the German Alpine Road: in Lindau, you will come across an impressive, largely intact old town centre and a romantic harbour on the island, where the boats for the Lake Constance tour also depart. Tip for the way back: a visit to Skywalk Allgäu in Scheidegg.

Munich Bavaria'smetropolis

The state capital of Bavaria offers a multitude of sights. From the Krone, you can reach Munich by car (approx. 1.5 hours) or by train (just under 2 hours from Immenstadt). A visit to Nymphenburg Palace, the 1972 Olympic Centre, Marienplatz square with its world-famous carillon at the town hall or the Frauenkirche church should not be missed. A visit to the Hofbräuhaus is of course also worthwhile.

If you want to combine your Allgäu holiday with a trip to Austria, we recommend a detour to the Tannheimer Tal with its many attractive hiking, winter and leisure opportunities. Even the journey to Tyrol is a pleasure. The outward journey via Pfronten and the Vils Valley and the return journey via Oberjoch and the famous Joch Pass back to the Illertal.
