Our guests don’t have to travel far to reach these destinations, as some of the most beautiful hiking experiences are right on our doorstep.
One of the classic spots around Immenstadt and Stein is the Großer Alpsee in Bühl. It’s not only a highlight in summer, but also invites you to take a stroll along its lakeside promenade in autumn. We recommend the circular walk around the Alpsee for a relaxing day’s hike, where you can enjoy the authentic Allgäu panorama without having to climb too many metres in altitude.
Ideal for: a relaxing autumn day | Landscape: lake, forest & mountains | Character: leisurely & scenic
Anyone spending their holiday in Immenstadt in the Allgäu will find it hard to miss the Mittagberg. The Mittagberg is our local mountain and, unlike the nearby Alpsee, offers a completely different kind of hiking experience.
It’s a steep climb, and you decide whether to take the Mittagbahn cable car or tackle the ascent on foot. Whichever way you choose, once you reach the top, the mountain rewards you with a breathtaking panoramic view over the surrounding villages and the Allgäu mountain landscape.
The view from the top is particularly worth it on clear autumn days, when the vista stretches far across the Oberallgäu.
Ideal for: Mountain lovers | Landscape: Mountain forest & panoramic views | Character: Challenging & scenic
As a little insider tip, we’d like to introduce you to the Gschwender Waterfall. Unlike the better-known attractions around Immenstadt, the Mittagberg and the Alpsee, this waterfall stands out thanks to its somewhat secluded location, offering a glimpse of the quieter side of the Oberallgäu. The forest path leading to the waterfall has a very special charm, particularly in autumn. It’s well worth taking the time to experience nature here in complete tranquillity.
Ideal for: nature lovers | Landscape: woodland & water | Atmosphere: peaceful & unspoilt
Whether it’s a leisurely stroll by the lake, a mountain hike with panoramic views or a short detour to the Gschwender Waterfall, at the Krone you can tailor your day’s walk entirely to your own preferences.
And that’s exactly what makes the Oberallgäu so lovely for an autumn holiday: you don’t have to climb the highest peak every day. Sometimes a leisurely stroll through the colourful forest is enough, before you return to the hotel in the afternoon and wind down the day in relaxation.
