Our morning smile: Petra

When the house is still quiet in the morning and the day is only just getting underway, she’s already been there for ages: Petra Rietzler. She’s been part of the Krone team since 2008 – spending many years working in the breakfast area and at the drinks buffet. Officially, she’s been in charge of the breakfast area since 2023. Unofficially? Well, she’s actually always been in charge.

Petra is always there at the Krone breakfast – keeping track of everything, working at a brisk pace, and always with her infectious laugh. She organises, sets the tables, serves drinks, and listens. And she has that special attitude to her job that you simply can’t learn.

One of her quotes sums it up perfectly: “When the doors open – usually as early as half past six – that’s when my guests arrive. Of course, they’re the Krone’s guests. But at that moment, they’re my guests. It’s important to me to give them a good start to the day. So I look after them and make sure they’re well looked after.”

She’s known many of our business travellers for years. Many holiday guests come back regularly. “These ‘repeat visitors’ are delighted to see familiar faces – and they show that delight. This positive feedback is what makes my job worthwhile.” And after over 40 years in the profession, you can tell: she means business when it comes to her breakfast guests. She remembers who drinks which coffee. Who’s in a hurry. Who likes to have a quick natter in the morning. With her, attention to detail is evident in the little things.

A few questions for Petra

Team ‘morning grouch’ or Team ‘morning person’?
“Not a morning person. But because I’m the first one in anyway and have plenty to do straight away, there’s often not much time for chatting. It gives me a chance to settle in first. 😉 What I really do love about that first hour is the peace and quiet!”

What’s the first thing you do when you arrive at work?
“Open all the doors and windows. Fresh air is important. And something that’s really important to me: turn on the radio! Then I get myself a latte – I love drinking lattes. And plenty of them.”

What’s your favourite dish at the Krone?
“My favourite meal at the Krone is still the roast beef with onions and the prawn spaghetti.”

Petra has now become a familiar face at the Krone, not only in the breakfast area where she looks after the buffet, service and organisation, but also behind the bar at lunchtime and in the evenings. In her spare time, she reads a lot and enjoys travelling. And by the way: her son Hannes is also part of the team at the Krone. But more of that - here
